Great example of living on purpose by example!

    • Jacob_Sokol says:

LOL. The guy still hasn't called!

      • Abigail Lumsden says:

Actually, Les and I know an older feisty woman who is my namesake (Abigail) who has a Vespa and frequents the hospital because of her mom, from time to time…. It's true… but we are kidding around.
We are smiling at how a moment of adversity can wake someone right up! If one is willing to listen to that On Purpose voice and take that extra real step. Congrats, Jacob! Thanks for the lesson! xo, Abby and Les

        • Jacob_Sokol says:

LOLOL! Super cool Abby and i'm *honored* that you stopped by and left a comment.

I hope you, Les, and my pops are having a blast at dinner right now. He was tearing it up on the dance floor earlier!!

You guys rock! Hope to hang with you soon.

  2. Hey man THAT is the kind of post and internal sharing that keeps me (and all your readers/friends) coming back all the time.
Thanks man for the insight. Solid Stoicism talking about dealing with your reaction to a situation and separating it from the actual situation to make your decision. Awesome.
    Take care of yourself man.
    With Feeling,
    Andrew

  3. brad says:

Ha, I bet your brother in law doesn't let you borrow his ride again.

Good for you on doing the right thing..You still should have told those people to mind their damn business….. That would have probably gone against your values as well.

    • Jacob_Sokol says:

Haha. Word dude. I bet you're right!! Actually, he was super cool about the whole situation. One might even call 'em, THE MAN!

And yeah, there was a part of me that wanted to flip that lady off, but my higher self knew better. After all, she was just living in integrity with HER values. Props to her!

  4. nathanagin says:

2 things: what the hell was your dad saying/doing during all this? and i *almost* thought you were going to say you were jerking "something else" yesterday…

those questions aside – great example of listening to your gut. it's almost fun for me now, of when i come across something where I'm trying to get away with something and it's just like, "nope – you KNOW what to do – so now go and do it"

thanks for sharing this. by the way – did you know it was a guy? maybe it was a lady – perhaps you would have WANTED to leave your #? ;-)

    • Jacob_Sokol says:

      Word Word.

Let's just say my pops was most concerned with MY best interest. Gotta love that no matter what.

And as for the jerking comment, let's just call that a Freudian slip.

Yeah dude. That "knowing" what you have to do isn't enough. It takes courage to be in integrity and actually do it. And i find that the more i use that courage muscle, the more natural it becomes.

And na, no idea if it was a dude or chick. For some reason i was picturing Llyod Christmas on there with 2 sets of gloves.

As I always say in these types of situations:
"S. F. D….OK (big sigh)… another fucking opportunity for spiritual growth!"
Doing the right thing is ALWAYS the best thing….the option is you are haunted for LIFE by your own weakness and lack of integrity. The price is not worth it. Always own it….it takes courage to own it…that is the reward.
BRAVO Jacob!!! loved the video! It made me laugh a lot! also I am with Nathan in wondering what your dad was doing during this little mini drama….silently observing your turmoil?
    love and light

    • Jacob_Sokol says:

Hahaha. I love that Kathy: "Doing the right thing is ALWAYS the best thing"

Thrilled to have alchemized that cluster-fuck of a situation into us laughing about it here.

And as for my pops, like i said to Nathan, he just caught my back on it!!

  6. Kathy G. says:

Making the choice to do the right thing, regardless of the circumstances, always seems to lighten my heart and lift the angst surrounding the situation…it frees you in the larger scheme of things. Way to go, Jacob…and by sharing your experience, you give weight and support to your integrity while showing others how it's done at the same time! Bravo!

  7. Lynne says:

Yep totally get your story Nathan,
I had a similar thing happen to me many years ago when a car had blocked me in (I was in a parking space the car blocking me in was not) & I had to squeeze past the blocking car in mine to go to an appointment, I caught the other cars light cracking the plastic cover. I left my details on the other car & the owner got in touch wanting full payment for a whole new light fitting, I declined & said that I would pay half for a new plastic cover as they had been illegally parked & shouldn't of blocked my way out. Any ways that was settled they accepted half, I paid it, job done.
Then several weeks later whilst I was parked in a space over night someone drove into the back of my car causing at that time £200.00 worth of damage – yep you got it no-one left me their details. Still I was glad I had previously done the right thing but always wonder how the conscience of the person who hit my car faired since. Not so well I reckon.
Good on you Jacob for living honestly & openly. It's the only way to live & progress. x

    • Jacob_Sokol says:

Exactly Lynne!! That's the entire point. No matter how enlightened we think we are – no matter how many people we come in contact with – no matter how many books we've read and studied – we ALL deal with the same situations.

It always comes back to Living On Purpose and being in integrity with our values if we wanna feel good.

Thanx for the share. Glad to see this resonated witcha!

  8. Lynne says:

Bloody hell so sorry Jacob I just called you Nathan (I had just read his post here) think his name must have stuck in my mind (well how could a super cool guy like Nathan not stay in your mind) Anyways real sorry Jacob, Jacob, Jacob, Jacob – yep got it you're the other super cool guy JACOB. Doh! x

  9. Digging this big time, dude. Way to rock that integrity. Viktor would be proud ;-)

Also, you reminded me of a story from my college days. Apparently some guy dented another car with his in the parking lot, in front of a whole bunch of onlookers. So he took out a pen and paper and left this note on the windshield: "I'm only writing this because everyone's standing here looking at me. Sorry I hit your car, but no way I'm leaving my info ;-)"

Oh so wrong but pretty damn funny.

    • Jacob_Sokol says:

LMAO. Hilarious dude! I had that same thought about leaving an empty note. You know, i didn't always write blogs about virtue. -=)

Thanx for swinging thru and sharing this with your social network! Talk soon – thumbs up!!

  10. Gunja says:

wow!…wish I'd seen it a bit earlier…maybe then, I would've remembered to step between stimulus and response and chosen a better way to deal with my frustrations than eat junk food…
    well….better luck next time!
    thanks for reminding though :)

  11. Yuval Goren says:

Thank you for sharing your story and being so honest and open about it. Getting your life in alignment with your core values is so important and allows for peace and harmony. A mis-alignment of your behavior and you beliefs will just cause conflict and stress.

  12. kim says:

Just started listening to your posts and blog and find them great. I see this as "What comes around, goes around". Karma might get you in the end… I'm a big believer in that. Sure leaving is much easier but like you said you knew that your integrity was being questioned by driving off. (-:

  13. krista says:

You are amazing beyond belief – because your videos are infused with so much energy and vitality! It makes me want to
kick life's ass and do something amazing with it!!

  14. Switch says:

What camera do you use to take these videos? It's so clear…

    • Jacob_Sokol says:

My digital cam, Canon Rebel T1i. What helps the most is the lighting. I put a lamp with a wrinkly shade right next the the lens and it gets light into the cracks of my face. -=)
