Sensophy’s Inner Circle: Week #24

Talking Point #1: Coach vs. Rescuer

There is a clear distinction between a coach and a rescuer, and this is super important to understand whether you’re on the coaching or receiving end of the relationship.

A coach empowers you and supports you to rock your life on your own, making your own decisions. Coaching is about you getting more power and building yourself up from the inside. It’s about internalizing your power and facilitating growth.

A rescuer, while they may have the best of intentions, has all of the power and makes the changes for you. When we’re rescued, we’re externalizing our power which prevents us from growing. A rescue is more like a temporary fix, while true coaching is supportive and empowering.

Be careful with the word “need,” as in “I need a coach” or “I need this book, or thing, or whatever.” This can often lead you into the trap of wanting to be rescued.

Talking Point #2: Challenges Around Creativity and Motivation

What are the best things to do when you find yourself in a rut when it comes to your creativity, motivation or productivity? First of all, it happens. You’re human! Transition your focus to activities for growth purposes and learn to recognize resistance as just a part of you, not something to be judged!

Ask yourself the question, “What are 3 things I could accomplish this week to make it a great week?” These should be things for growth, not just maintenance. If you can, create accountability by talking about these goals with other people.

If you’re stuck on or not sure about something, ask yourself: Is it really the most important thing for you to be doing right now? Once you make that distinction, you can figure out if it’s resistance holding you back or whatever else might be in your way. If you have a time period in which to work, always ask yourself “What is the most important thing I can do with this time?”

Talking Point #3: Letting Go and Dealing With Uncertainty

How comfortable do you feel with uncertainty? Nearly all of us on the call felt either really uncomfortable or somewhat uncomfortable with uncertainty!

It can be really scary to let go of what we know and what we can predict in our lives. Whether it’s a job, apartment, relationship or whatever else, it can often be easier to hold onto something that might not be good for us, than it is to let go and face an uncertain future.

But guess what? If something feels really uncertain and uncomfortable, it’s a good thing! Because from there, the next stage is evolving into the next version of ourselves. We must let go of who we are and experience a rebirth in order to grow and live at a higher level. Letting go of things that no longer serve us allows us to flourish into the people we can become. And being OK with uncertainty in our lives helps guide us to the places we can really explore ourselves and reach that next level of fulfillment.
