Sensophy’s Inner Circle – Week 42

Big Idea #1: Getting Out of Our Heads

It can be overwhelming thinking about all the things that we need or want to do, especially when we tell ourselves that we really “need” to do so many things in life. Scheduling time and rationing out our energy can get downright exhausting. Sometimes we compare ourselves to others, or just hold very high standards for all the things we want to accomplish. This can all lead to feelings of anxiety and like we’re not “good enough.”

Sometimes the problem here is getting stuck in our heads, where we tell ourselves that we need to be a certain way or do something differently. Basically, our heads tell us that we need to be some way that we aren’t already, or be somewhere that we aren’t.

What’s one thing you can do to get out of your head?

These things could include activities that get you in your body, like exercise or meditation. Having a super speedy mind is a great asset, but don’t let it come at the detriment of your well-being! Focus on being where you are, and accepting everything you have and are in this present moment.

Big Idea #2: “Need” vs. “Want”

Expanding on the previous point, it can be hard to live with a sense of purpose when we’re telling ourselves we “need to” do so many things. It might feel so ideal to have a laser focus in life, to wake up every day with a sense of purpose, knowing what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. But this can feel very hard to achieve when we put so many expectations on ourselves.

So what would happen if you switched your mindset from “need to” “want to”?

“Need” is an imposed feeling, while “want” is more of a created feeling. When we do things because we “need” to, we feel obligated and heavy. But doing things that we “want” to do feels light, easy and fun! We’re acting out of our own personal sense of purpose and fulfillment, rather than what we think society expects of us or what will please others.

Big Idea #3: Feelings Come From Thoughts

We often get really excited when we start something new, especially when it’s in alignment with who we are and what’s important to us. These passion projects can start out with alot of energy and excitement, but at some point we hit the plateau where that energy levels out. At that point, we must work through the resistance that comes up and gives us excuses why we can’t do this thing. This might come through in the message that “I’m not enough” or “I should abandon this to be secure”, or “There’s already so many other people doing this.”

This all can make us feel anxious, overwhelmed and afraid when we think about pursuing our goal. But really, feelings come from thoughts. So when we’re feeling something that makes us uncomfortable, it’s really important to look back to our thoughts and find out where they are coming from.

If our thought is “Am I good enough?” or “I need to be secure” or “I can’t do this”, then we can ask ourselves:

How can I find a way to reframe this with a positive thought?

If you can positively transform your thoughts, you will drastically transform how you feel. It’s not about changing your external situation; you have the full power to change how you feel for the better.
