Sensophy’s Inner Circle – Week 56

Big Idea #1: Posting as Self-Expression or Business?

What should you do if you’re not sure what’s appropriate to post on your blog?

Understand the purpose behind your blog. Is this for a business, or is this a vehicle for self-expression? If you’re creating a business, you want to think about how you’re going to serve your audience. Does it make sense to share certain personal stories if you’re looking to create a business?

If we’re worried that posting something might work out badly or offend someone, there’s a good chance that this is coming from a place of fear. More likely than not, as long as we’re coming from the heart and not from a harmful intention, expressing ourselves authentically will help people connect with us and our message.

So to really figure out what to post on your blog, as yourself:

Why am I doing this?

Am I doing this to express myself creatively, or am I doing this to get paid to do what I love, to create a business?

Sharing your story is a great way to help people connect with you. But remember that if you’re looking to create a great coaching business- the best way to do that is to get into conversations, focus on service and… coach!!

Big Idea #2: Getting Over Overthinking

Sometimes, stuff comes up in life that we just start over-thinking in our head. Whether it’s going back and forth over a job you want to quit, or have already quit, or figuring out how to live your passion… overthinking afflicts us all.

The problem is, when we’re over-thinking something, we’re listening to the “shoulds” and not to our own inner voice. We think about what’s best for other people, for society’s expectations, and we create stories about what we “should” or “shouldn’t” do. Fear comes up about what bad things might happen if we stray from the path of “should.” We ignore the voice in our heart that knows what we really want and need to do, to express the purpose of our soul.

The best way to make decisions would be to come from inside your body, and not from your head. So get into your body, go exercise and run around! Do 20 jumping jacks and a few laps of the room. Make sure your heart is pounding and you feel a bit breathless…then ask yourself what you really want to do. If you can answer while you’re still in your body, before your head kicks in, you’ll probably find an answer coming from your heart.

Listen to that voice, because it’s in that moment that you can push away the “shoulds” that bombard your mind, and act from an authentic place in your heart.

Big Idea #3: Aligning with Yourself, and Competing Commitments

Are you looking to certain areas of your life to define yourself to the outside world? For example, having a certain type of job can feel like an anchor, a way to define your identity to other people. This job may not necessarily help you express your purpose, but leaving this job can create a huge fear of losing your identity, or at least a concrete way to describe it.

But what if your identity could be defined as: I’m doing exactly what I wanna be doing, which is figuring out exactly what I wanna be doing!

What’s more important: what people think of you, or what you think of yourself?

You may agree that what you think of yourself is the most important to your happiness.

Well, if you were take action in alignment with what you think of yourself and what’s truly important to you, what might change in your life?

So what’s stopping you from doing what’s important to you?

News flash: the “boogeyman” that’s stopping us from doing what we want is all in our imagination. It’s all just the story we create of what’s there, of what bad things might happen if we truly follow what’s in our heart.

Competing commitments

If you’re not getting what you want in life, it’s because you have a commitment to not getting what you want in life. In other words, you’re making something else more important than getting what you want. This could be validation from others, or a feeling of safety, comfort and certainty.

But when you start to make freedom, passion, excitement and authenticity more of a commitment than safety and security, then the motivation comes back. The “shoulds” stop bombarding our mind.
