Sensophy’s Inner Circle – Week 80

Big Idea #1: Redefining Success

Plenty of people in this world view “success” as working 8 hours per day, 50 weeks per year. You may not agree with this, but it can still be hard to escape the expectations of society. So what does it mean if you don’t work 8 hours per day? Are you telling yourself that you aren’t “successful” just because you aren’t working the amount of hours that society says you “should”?

The truth is, you could spend a whole lot of time (8 hours per day!) doing something which doesn’t really matter all that much in the long run. OR, you could spend a focused, shorter amount of time doing something effective which really makes a difference. What if you switched your mindset from being efficient to being effective?

The way that most people view life and success is going to be vastly different from how you do. Many people measure success by the amount of effort that they put into something, or the amount of hours they put in. Switching that mindset is courageous and bold, and it this is why we’re here to support each other through this process!

So notice how you measure your success. How do you measure what is and isn’t acceptable in your life?

Big Idea #2: Dealing with Jealousy and Triggers

When we’re always seeing other people doing well in their life and business, jealousy often arises and makes us feel worse about our own situation. It’s really easy to fall into the trap of seeing other people and thinking we need to model them and their process. Often though, feeling envious of what other people have in their life or business is really just a distraction from focusing on your own process.

Here are 2 other main things that often get in the way of a successful business:

  1. Making it about you (what does it say about me if I have this successful business? What am I gonna get from this?)
  2. Needing it to happen now. (desperation is a wealth repellant!)

Play the long term game. Realize that this isn’t a 6-week game or even a 6-month game; if this is your life’s passion, you’re in this for the long haul.

When something triggers us, it’s often because there’s something in ourselves that we’re not owning or honoring. It’s often something in ourselves that we’re not fully looking at. Anytime that something bothers us, it’s called shadow projecting – it’s really a part of ourselves that we’re not aware is there.

One way to deal with this is to ask, “how am I that?”

Notice where are you somehow embodying the thing that triggers you in others?

Big Idea #3: The Golden Projection

Most likely if we see somebody doing something that really inspires us, it doesn’t mean that we need to be doing that exact thing! What is really means is there’s something they’re doing which is really speaking to us. It’s a “golden projection”, the opposite of the shadow projection! We see somebody doing something awesome, which really resonates with something in us.

So it’s really important to have the self-awareness and self-knowledge that when we see something that inspires us, to look at what it is we really resonate with, rather than just copying that thing. For example, we might be super inspired by a coach to go out and serve the world in some way that’s meaningful to us, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we should become a coach. It could mean that! But the important thing is the doing the self-inquiry to find out what it is that’s really getting our heart going.
