Now, for this week’s big ideas…

Big Idea #1: Information Overwhelm

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by how to organize all the resources, ideas, books, courses, and other personal development tools out there, so that you can actually implement these things into your life?

There is SO much to learn – it can actually paralyze you to try to do it all! So ask yourself this question:

If you had to eliminate 90% of all the things you’re interested in – what 10% would be left?

One of the skills that we need to build is discernment, with all the information that’s out there and distractions in life. We need to sharpen our attention like a sword, so we can put it where we want it when we want it.

At a certain point, it’s not about choosing the perfect thing – it’s about choosing SOMETHING! It’s about getting into motion, so we can course-correct as we go.

And if you’re experiencing anxiety, drop into the present and into your body. When you can calm your physiology, you will calm your psychology. Deep breaths are going to help you a lot more than mentally trying to “work through” or “figure out” any issues you’re experiencing.

Big Idea #2: Discomfort and Growth

Plenty of things in life are uncomfortable. Moving locations, changing jobs or partners, and asking for money from clients – all of these things can cause a great deal of discomfort for us. But does discomfort automatically mean that we should avoid something? Nope – in fact, it’s often the things that make us uncomfortable that are actually going to lead to the most growth.

There’s a difference between something being out of integrity for us, and something feeling uncomfortable yet you’d be really excited if it worked out. This “weirdness” you may feel around something isn’t necessarily a bad thing! It just means you’re becoming the next version of yourself, and challenging your current identity. It can feel like a mini death in some way, to grow into a new version of yourself.

A truly fulfilling life means allowing ourselves to die and be reborn, again and again. We must let go of who we are in order to become who we’re capable of becoming – and this means embracing discomfort and flowing with change, shedding our old skin and stepping into our new way of being.

Big Idea #3: Seek Fulfillment – Not Happiness

Happiness tends to be over-glamorized in our society. It’s perfectly okay not to feel happy all the time! To be human means to experience ALL emotion – but our culture seems to demonize everything that isn’t happiness. Our society tells us that “if you feel bad, then you aren’t enough.”

We have to give ourselves permission to be human! This means loving ourselves and others exactly as we are, for feeling the full spectrum of emotions. We need to stop glamorizing the emotion of happiness, and to allow ourselves to be fully real, feeling everything completely, and orienting ourselves towards fulfillment instead of happiness.

When we’re directing our lives towards something that fulfills our purpose, the path is going to be challenging, it’s going to feel blissful, terrifying, and everything in between! This is a path that truly means something to us, and we are going to feel all the emotions. The goal is not to feel constant ecstasy – it’s the experience of deep fulfillment, and all the emotions within it, that comprises a truly rich and well-lived life.
