Thanks so much for joining us in the Inner Circle this week! 🙂

Hop on over here to grab the MP3 of yesterday’s Inner Circle coaching call.

We WON’T have a call next week, since Jacob will be rocking our third Bali retreat!! (!!!)

So our next IC call will be on Tuesday, January 26th at 8pm/EST. Mark it on your calendar as soul-time!

In the meantime, you can dig into the IC Archive here and stay connected with the whole crew in the FB group here!

Now, for this week’s big ideas…

Big Idea #1: Dealing w/ Overwhelm

Feeling overwhelmed? It happens to the best of us!

Look at your relationship to being overwhelmed (or really, any emotion that makes you feel uncomfortable.) Inherently, overwhelm isn’t a bad thing! When we place judgment on it that overwhelm is “bad” – it creates a vicious cycle of even more discomfort.

What you resist persists. When you resist feeling overwhelmed, it’s going to come back stronger and stronger. But when you lean into it and accept the discomfort, it will actually dissipate.

Think about what it is that you really want to achieve. How would you feel if you achieved that goal? Then, ask yourself: Which of these feelings are most missing from your life right now?

So here’s the work. How can you come FROM the place that you want to get TO? When we create a goal in pursuit of a feeling, we need to find the way to create that feeling in our life – and THEN we can work towards that goal.

Big Idea #2: 80/20 Principle

What do you GET from getting involved in a million things? Suddenly, your whole week is filled up with stuff you’re not sure you even want to do.

What you get from that is a perceived sense of control and certainty.

And what you lose is your clarity and freedom to do what it is that you actually want to be doing, and what actually works for you.

We’ve grown up in a society that says we’re rewarded for our efforts, not for our results. So we think that the more we work, the better of a person that we are. But this isn’t true at all! You could spend your entire life working hard at something, or getting involved in lots of busy work, and not actually end up feeling fulfilled or making a difference.

The 80/20 Principle says that usually, it’s 20% of our efforts that gets us 80% of our results. (That means that the other 80% of our efforts is only getting us 20% of our results!) So what 20% of your time is being spent most wisely?!

Big Idea #3: Freedom vs. Commitment

Have you ever found yourself seeking freedom from your job, or other commitments or constraints you have in your life? And then when you have that freedom – wishing for more structure?

Oftentimes, people say that they want freedom. But then when they get freedom, they often don’t know what to do with it!

What most people really want is something worth committing to. We spiral upwards, oscillating between two different ends of the spectrum… seeking freedom…. and then seeking a cause worth committing to. What we really want a commitment within freedom, that’s in alignment with what matters to us.
