Now, for this week’s big ideas…

Big Idea #1: Navigating Out of a Funk

Sadness is not synonymous with depression. When we’re feeling sad, we often reach for things like comfort food and things to make us feel better in the moment… then, because we eat the comfort food, we skip the gym… so that makes us feel even worse….and a vicious cycle begins. The challenging situations in our life feel even MORE challenging than they needed to, when we’re stuck in the cycle of making bad choices because of being in a bad space.

Feeling shitty leads to making shitty choices – so it causes things in our life to snowball!

What this means is that feeling bad doesn’t mean that you’re depressed or broken! It just means you need to stop the snowball and shift the momentum into a positive direction. Ask yourself: what commitments do you need to make to go in a direction that will make you feel better?

Big Idea #2: Transitioning from Peak Experiences

Oftentimes when we’re coming back from a peak experience like a retreat, we experience a “down” period when re-integrating to the “real world”. There can be a huge difference between this epiphany of  “WOW life can be that way!” into going back into your normal life situation.

It’s a huge wake-up call, because suddenly you realize that you’ve been living out of alignment with your values. This seemingly rude call to action shows you where you need to make changes in your life.

So how can you set yourself up to connect more to yourself? Connecting to yourself will help you understand what it is about your life that needs to change, to get you more aligned with what you value… that thing you experienced in your peak experience, that you’re not experiencing back in your “normal” life. How can you get this need met, or change your life so you’re more in alignment with your truth?

Big Idea #3: Dealing with an Unsupportive Work Environment

When you’re working in an environment that feels unsupportive or doesn’t meet your needs – ask yourself: What need of mine is not currently being met? When we feel like our external environment isn’t meeting our needs… we can look at how else we can get these needs met.

Even if your job doesn’t fulfill you completely, it can serve a purpose – to have your basic needs met. So how can you best serve in your position, and give as much value as possible – without sacrificing what matters to you?

Being authentic doesn’t always mean being the same. You will be a little different when you talk to your significant other vs. a colleague, friend or family member. This doesn’t mean you’re being deceiving or inauthentic! There are simply different situations where it’s appropriate to show up in different ways.

And sometimes, our job isn’t the place to share ourselves as deeply as we’d like to. In that case, we need to look for where we CAN get that need met elsewhere. We can show up at work in a certain way, and make sure that our need for deep authenticity is met elsewhere in our life.

Let’s connect!
